Message from Our Principal, Jessica Blumen
Welcome to Arroyo! Arroyo is a wonderful school community! From the intentionally designed campus to the phenomenal garden, the flexible learning environments, the wild zone, the lovely murals, and so much more. It is true that we take great pride in our physical environment, but the real beauty illuminates through the people, including the students, teachers, support staff, families, and the loving community.
Arroyo offers each learner a balanced instructional program. Students enjoy learning from supportive and skillful teachers who expertly guide and nurture them along their developmental journey. Common Core State Standards are taught in a variety of ways, and teachers invite students to deepen their learning through Project Based Learning and Personalized Learning. In addition to the core academic curriculum, students enjoy instruction in physical education, makerspace, garden, world languages, music, art, technology, and social-emotional learning. These thoughtfully designed, innovative, and engaging experiences allow us to support the whole child by focusing on all areas of development: cognitive, physical, social, and emotional.
At Arroyo, we are proud to be an inclusive community and continually strive to strengthen this aspect of our school. It is important to us that all members feel welcomed, valued, respected, safe, and heard. When we listen to each other, value input from diverse perspectives, and utilize the skills and talents of our community, we allow our students the opportunity to thrive in the deepest of ways. We encourage everyone to become involved, and we invite you to learn about the many opportunities available to you.
As an upper elementary school, serving 4th and 5th grade, it is a gift to be able to uniquely tailor the educational experience to learners at this developmental stage. While students and families are only with us for two years, our goal is to ensure that those two years allow the entire school community to feel a sense of belonging and deep connection. Our school is still in the infancy stage, and we are continuing to form our identity and establish our traditions. This year we plan to dedicate time to strengthening our vertical alignment with our feeder elementary schools, as well as with Central to create the most impactful experience for our students during their time here at Arroyo. We invite you to be a part of this important work.
It is truly an honor to serve as the Principal of Arroyo! I was fortunate to grow up in San Carlos and attend school in here K-8 and I continue to call San Carlos home today. I have a deep appreciation for this community and am grateful that I can give back to the community that gave me so much! I know how special the San Carlos School District is and as such, I am genuinely thrilled to be serving this exceptional community. I look forward to partnering with you!
