Arroyo Garden
The Arroyo Garden is a 4,000-square-foot, interactive outdoor learning space that brings 4th and 5th grade curriculum to life — from science to social studies, to reading and real-world problem-solving. Through their garden work, Arroyo students develop their leadership skills and deepen their understanding of environmental stewardship. Best of all, the garden space is a fun, quiet place for meeting, reading, reflection and discovery. Thanks to the joint efforts of the CMS/Arroyo PTA, SCSD and SCEF, students and staff can use this outdoor, organic classroom for standards-based lessons and project-based learning, as well as exciting club programs and community service projects.
Our garden is managed by Each Green Corner. Emily Verstraete is Each Green Corner’s Community Garden Coordinator. She is a Climate Corps fellow with AmeriCorps who has been running before- and after-school programming with the YMCA for the past few years. Emily has a background in youth development, nonprofit work and small agriculture, and has been working in gardens her entire life. She looks forward to working together with teachers, students and volunteers to get the most out of our community’s green spaces! She will be at Arroyo on Wednesdays.
Please sign up to join us for monthly work days, 9 a.m.-noon on the second Saturday of each month.
