Principal’s MessageDear Arroyo families, Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Hometown Days Parade yesterday, and especially to Debbie Blucher and Mazarin Vakharia for coordinating Arroyo’s walking group in the parade. It was so much fun to show our Eagle pride and celebrate the San Carlos community! Congratulations to the students who marched with our SCSD band as well. It’s always great to show off our phenomenal music program. We have just four action-packed weeks left in this school year! Our 4th Graders are done with state testing, except for those who have makeup tests to complete. 5th Graders will finish up this week with the California Science Test (CAST). Please continue to avoid unnecessary absences before 10:20 a.m. and make sure students arrive at school on time. Getting a good night’s sleep and having a healthy breakfast are also important in helping students do their best. Encourage students to do their best but not to worry if there are questions that feel too hard. Students are not permitted to have electronic devices (cellphones, smartwatches, etc.) in the classroom during testing windows. We look forward to seeing you this Thursday, May 23, from 6-7 p.m. for our Celebration of Learning. Families are invited to visit their children’s classrooms to celebrate all that our students have accomplished this year. Students can’t wait to share their work with you. Be sure to stop by our Art in Action Art Show in the Learning Commons from 6-7. We would love for you to join us in the Central quad earlier that evening at 5:15 for a pizza dinner and our PTA Honorary Service Awards. Here are a few other dates to make sure you have on your calendar:
When dropping off or picking up your child from school, please be mindful of not blocking crosswalks, driveways, and intersections. We have a lot of students who walk, bike, or scooter to school, and it’s important that we make the environment safe for them by not blocking their visibility. Please also be sure to obey our parking lot procedures. Please turn right when entering our parking lot and follow the line of cars in our pickup line. Thank you for your cooperation. This May, we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month! While promoting mental well-being is always a priority at Arroyo, we'll be organizing special activities throughout the month to remind students about the importance of taking care of their minds. Wondering if your child’s behavior is typical for their age? Our mental health team gets this question a lot! The pandemic may have affected development in some cases. Yardsticks is a helpful resource when you have questions or concerns around student behavior. This age-based guide is an overview of “typical” characteristics and behaviors and can help you understand your child’s development. Need additional support? Don’t worry, we have extensive resources to help! We believe it’s crucial that you get the support you need. One valuable resource available to all district families is Care Solace. This program connects students and caregivers with support services, including access to therapists, often covered by insurance. Care Solace is available 24/7 for your convenience. Our school is here to support you and your student(s)! Here are some additional mental health resources:
I hope to see you Thursday evening! Warmly, Breakfast and Lunch This WeekPlease take time to review the menu for next week with your child. If they do not see a breakfast and/or lunch option that they will eat, then please plan to help them pack their own lunch from home (or a hearty snack on Wednesday), and please send your child with a snack for morning recess regardless. PTA NewsThis Thursday: Join Us for Honorary Service Awards and DinnerPlease join us at the PTA Honorary Service Awards this Thursday, May 23, at 5:15 p.m. We will recognize individuals for their outstanding service to our community with an awards presentation and pizza dinner. The event will take place just before the Celebration of Learning. If you are available to help us set up or serve pizza and salad, please sign up here. Student helpers welcome! Hometown Days Parade Gratitude!A big shoutout to Mazarin Vakharia and Debbie Blucher for organizing Arroyo’s participation in the San Carlos Hometown Days Parade.
