Dear Arroyo families,
I hope you all had a wonderful break as a family and found time to unplug together. My family spent time preparing for some big transitions, visiting colleges with my high school junior and preparing for graduation for my college senior. Trust me when I say the time goes fast and enjoy the time you have together.
There is a lot happening at Arroyo between now and the end of the school year. Please keep a close eye on our newsletter for dates of fun events and important deadlines. Spring is also filled with assessments, including state and district testing. Please do your best to ensure regular school attendance.
There are a number of ways to support our school and community next weekend.
-
Come support the cast of Willy Wonka (including quite a few Arroyo students) at our SCSD/San Carlos Children’s Theater upper elementary play on Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m., or Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. in Mustang Hall.
-
Sunday, April 21, from 9-11 a.m. is our Stampede & Soar Color Run.
-
Also this Sunday is the San Carlos Day of Service. Sign up to help out after the run.
SCEF also has events coming up that help support our schools.
-
Our teacher outing auction events are happening soon, and there are several spots still available. Click here to find out more.
-
San Carlos Day at SF Giants (vs. Diamondbacks) is this Saturday, April 20, at 1:05 p.m. Get tickets here.

Next week (April 22-26) is Earth Week, and Eagle Council has a spirit week planned. Please encourage your child to participate!
-

-
Tuesday, 4/23: Inside Out & Backwards Day, open garden at recess and lunch
-
Wednesday, 4/24: Wear silly socks, open garden and chalk art during recess
-
Thursday, 4/25: Anything But a Backpack Day and poetry contest (details to come)
-
Friday, 4/26: Pajama Day
Please mark your calendars for the evening of Thursday, May 23, for our Central-Arroyo Celebration of Learning. We are excited to invite families to campus to showcase the hard work our students have done throughout the year. More details to come — be sure to save the date! That Friday, May 24, will be a minimum day, with dismissal at 1:00.
Also save May 18 for the San Carlos Hometown Days Parade. There are a few ways Arroyo students can participate. 5th Graders in band have already received information from Mrs. Green about joining the marching band group. Arroyo will also have our own group participating in the parade. Keep an eye on the PTA section of the Eagle Eye for details. If you’ve never participated in Hometown Days (May 18-19), it’s a great chance to celebrate the San Carlos community.
If you know any families with current 3rd Graders who will be attending Arroyo next year, make sure they know about our Zoom orientation this Tuesday at 5 p.m. and our upcoming campus tours. See this flier for details.
We are in need of a few lunchtime volunteers to help supervise our talent show rehearsals this spring. If you’re available to help from 12:00-12:40 any day of the week, either weekly or biweekly, please email me at [email protected].
If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to order an Arroyo yearbook for your child. Yearbooks are distributed the last week of school, and extra copies will not be available on campus, so be sure to order by May 6 if your child would like one. See the PTA section below for details and ordering information.
Finally, if you need to reach our front office for the rest of the school year, please use the email address [email protected] or call 650-632-8300. Our fantastic administrative assistant, Tracey Olazar, will be out for the rest of the school year. We are lucky to have Venetia Young filling in until Tracey returns in August.
I’m looking forward to seeing students tomorrow and hearing about how they spent their time over break. I also look forward to seeing many of you next Sunday morning at our Stampede & Soar!
Warmly, Mindy Shelton Principal [email protected]
Breakfast and Lunch This Week
Please take time to review the menu for next week with your child. If they do not see a breakfast and/or lunch option that they will eat, then please plan to help them pack their own lunch from home (or a hearty snack on Wednesday), and please send your child with a snack for morning recess regardless.
Sunday, April 21 • 9-11 a.m.
We’re excited to welcome so many members of our school communities to the Central-Arroyo Stampede & Soar Color Run NEXT SUNDAY, April 21!
We need more volunteers to round out the morning’s activities and make sure the event runs safely and smoothly for our kids. We have only about half the volunteers we need.
If you haven’t already, please grab a spot for course monitor, games supervisor, or cleanup — or anything else that you can do! There are so many ways to help out, and the shifts are short and easy. If you have already signed up, thank you so much — and please invite a friend to sign up and join you!
Color Run Registration Info
Our registration deadline has passed for a guaranteed T-shirt, but you can still register to run! Remember, anyone who wants to participate in the run, including students, parents and siblings over the age of 6 and with a parent chaperone must complete the registration process. No registration is necessary for the on-campus afterparty.
For everyone who is registered, you should have received an email last week with all the details you’ll need for getting your t-shirt in advance of the run, and day-of information. Can’t wait to see you there!
Don’t Miss Out on a Yearbook!
The end of the school year is near! Have you ordered your student’s yearbook — or customized their two free pages? The deadline for yearbook orders and customizations is May 6, so don’t delay. Order now!
