Dear Arroyo families,
Our students had a great time on our field trips over the past two weeks. Special thanks to our teachers, who put a lot of time and effort into planning these trips, and to the parent chaperones who made them possible. Some of our chaperones and teachers have uploaded photos here for all to enjoy. If you have photos from any of our trips, feel free to add them.
On Monday morning our students are in for a treat with Jump Rope Master Peter Nestler. We’re looking forward to Peter’s engaging and motivational assembly. Thanks to PTA and your SCEF donations for making this possible.
On Monday evening, 5th Grade parents and guardians are invited to attend our Middle School Math Pathways Information Session at Mustang Hall, from 6-7 p.m.
Next week is a big week for our music department:
-
Tuesday evening at 5:30 is our 5th Grade band and orchestra concert. Be sure to read the information shared by our music teachers about timing, concert attire, and more.
-
Wednesday from 3:30-7:00 is our 4th Grade instrument selection night. Please bring your 4th Graders to try out the instrument options available to them. You can learn more about the process here.
We’ve had a couple of issues come up with our school lunch program over the past few weeks. Our goal is to have lunches available for any student who needs one, and we don’t want anyone to go hungry, but we’ve had some students claiming a lunch just to get the snack that goes with it and then wasting the rest of the lunch — which leaves other students without a lunch. Please check in with your child and remind them to only take a lunch if they need it and intend to eat most of it. If they only want a snack, they are welcome to check our share bin, or they may need to bring an extra snack from home. Thank you for your help in reinforcing that so we don’t have students going hungry.
It’s time to complete your annual Back-to-School Forms. Each spring, the school district asks all families to complete their annual student information forms through PowerSchool online. This allows families to update/add emergency contact information, give permissions, update health records (allergy or medical considerations), and is required to secure your spot for the next school year. Last week, you should have received an email titled (2024-25) Back-To-School Form Instructions from [email protected]. Please complete these forms as soon as possible, no later than Friday, April 5. Should your plans change at any point and you no longer intend to return for the next academic year, please notify the school office ASAP.
Next week (April 8-12) is Spring Break. I want to remind you again about the importance of students being at school when school is in session. The days leading up to break are often the wrap-up of a unit of study that includes the completion of projects and assessments. The days after a break often include an introduction of new concepts and units. Students missing these days is challenging for both them and their teachers. Please be mindful when scheduling vacation plans.
Have a wonderful spring break!
Warmly, Mindy Shelton Principal [email protected]
Breakfast and Lunch This Week
Please take time to review the menu for next week with your child. If they do not see a breakfast and/or lunch option that they will eat, then please plan to help them pack their own lunch from home (or a hearty snack on Wednesday), and please send your child with a snack for morning recess regardless.
Stampede & Soar Volunteers Needed
Sunday, April 21 • 9-11 a.m.
The Stampede & Soar Color Run is coming up in a few short weeks, and we need YOU to volunteer! Volunteering is a really fun way to cheer on our runners while making sure everyone is safe and has a great time. There are so many ways to help out, and the shifts are short and easy. Please check out the roles here and sign yourself up, or “voluntell” another member of your family.
The deadline has passed for a guaranteed T-shirt, but you can still register to run! Anyone who wants to run or walk the course must register, including students, parents, and siblings over the age of 6 and with a parent chaperone. No registration is required for the on-campus afterparty. Can’t wait to see you there!
School Play April 19-20: Willy Wonka KIDS
All families are invited to next month’s Arroyo production of Willy Wonka KIDS, the musical. Performances are in Mustang Hall on Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. Admission is free; donations appreciated. Come support your Arroyo actor schoolmates!
Hometown Days: We Need Your Help!
San Carlos Hometown Days is May 18-19 this year, and the PTA needs one or two volunteers to organize Arroyo’s participation in the annual parade. You’ll confirm our spot with the organizers, help spread the word about joining the Eagle contingent, and then pass out spirit swag the morning of the parade. Thanks for considering! Sign up here.
Join Our Awards Committee
At the end of every school year, we recognize teachers, staff, and volunteers for their outstanding service. The PTA invites you to join the committee that solicits nominations for these awards, works with the principals on the selection process, and organizes the May 23 awards presentation. Will you share your skills to make this happen? Sign up here.
PTA Board Nominees for 2024-25
The Central Arroyo PTA’s Executive Board for the next school year will be voted on at our April PTA meeting. There are still open positions on the board and in other areas such as the Book Fair, website, membership, online store, and more. Online Auction Ends Tuesday!
Don’t miss out on our annual online auction, which ends this Tuesday, April 2. Support your school and bid on entertainment, travel, dining, wine and spirits, museums, concerts, attraction tickets, and more. See all the amazing offerings at scefkids.org/events.
April 20: San Carlos Day at the Giants and National Anthem Experience
Join other local families at San Carlos Day at the Giants, when the home team takes on the Arizona Diamondbacks: Saturday, April 20, 1:05 p.m. Tickets are $28 for bleacher seats near the Fan Lot. The Giants will make a $10 donation to SCEF for every ticket sold!
San Carlos is one of the few school groups that have held on to the opportunity to sing the national anthem before a game, and this year it is a weekend daytime game! This is an amazing opportunity and a great memory maker. Grab an anthem spot for your child in SCEF’s online auction, which ends this Tuesday. Only 150 spots are available; choose the auction item that matches your child’s T-shirt size. Remember that anthem singers also need a game ticket.
Help Us Meet Our Goal: Fund-the-Future of STEM Education
We only need to raise $21K more to meet the $200K goal — please donate today. SCEF works with the Superintendent every year to identify a need in San Carlos schools that would benefit from a targeted fundraising effort. These are funds we raise above and beyond our ongoing support for educator positions, counseling, libraries, music, technology, PTA budgets, etc. Donations are restricted to a fund that will be used to provide supplies, materials, equipment for students, and professional development for teachers to aid STEM and project-based learning in the classroom. Watch our video and learn more at scefkids.org/ftf2024.
Back-to-School Forms Due This Friday
Each spring, we ask all families to complete their annual Back-to-School student information forms through PowerSchool online. This allows families to update/add emergency contact information, give permissions, update health records (allergy or medical considerations), and is required to secure your spot for the next school year.
Last week, you should have received an email titled (2024-25) Back-To-School Form Instructions from [email protected]. This email contains detailed instructions on how to update your child’s records and confirm their enrollment for the next academic year. Additionally, it will include a link to the PowerSchool portal and a unique ID number for your student, referred to as the Snap Code. PowerSchool had some difficulty with the rollout of the forms, so please email [email protected] if you did not receive your email.
Please complete these forms as soon as possible, no later than Friday, April 5.
Should your plans change at any point and you no longer intend to return for the next academic year, please notify your school office ASAP. We genuinely appreciate your cooperation in this essential process.
