We had a fantastic turnout, and I’m grateful to everyone who carved out time to visit your child’s classroom and check out their projects. It was indeed a celebration of the hard work our students have done, and it was such a joy for me to walk around campus and watch students tell you about their learning this year. I want to give a special shout-out to our teachers for the tremendous effort they put into both the evening and all of the work leading up to it, and to Christen Hanson and Rasa Virbicke for organizing our annual Art in Action Art Show. Thank you also to those who attended our Honorary Service Awards ceremony earlier that evening, and congratulations again to our award recipients Esther Wang, Alana Corso, Jennifer Otanez, and Julie Jobak. We are finally wrapping up our state testing with only a handful of make-up tests still to complete, but we are by no means done with learning. All of our classes are in the middle of PBL (Project Based Learning) units and are completing other projects, assignments, and assessments in the coming weeks. It’s also important that we take time as a school community to celebrate all that we have accomplished this year so those days of classroom and school-wide celebrations like our Field Day and Spirit Week serve a special purpose. Please continue to ensure regular attendance unless your child is sick. Our upcoming events list is getting shorter! A few reminders:
Warmly, SCEF NewsCelebrations All Around Town! What a great turnout for the SCEF Celebrates Music Hometown Days Concert and the excitement at all of our schools welcoming their families for their Celebrations of Learning. Please contact Kristen Carlson or Jennie Romeo. Art in Action Art Show AppreciationA special thank you to our Arroyo Art in Action coordinators, Christen Hanson and Rasa Virbicke, for organizing the wonderful art show at the Celebration of Learning last week. So many fantastic creations were on display. In addition, thank you to all the AiA class coordinators, docents, and helpers who have given their time in the classroom throughout the school year. The Art in Action program is made possible by these wonderful volunteers and funds from your SCEF donations. Thank you. Celebrating Pride Month with Art in the Library! It’s been a blast making origami with Arroyo and Central students the past two weeks for AANHPI Month! This Tuesday and Thursday, we will be making rainbow flags in the library in honor of Pride Month. We could still use a couple of volunteers for Tuesday, May 30, during lunchtime. Sign up here! Thank you to the volunteers who helped with origami (photos below)! Focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and BelongingJune Is PRIDE MonthPride Month occurs in June in the United States to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising in New York City, which occurred in June 1969 in response to police raids on gay and lesbian bars. The uprising inspired a generation of activists and helped form a civil rights movement to fight homophobia. Pride events are held during this month to recognize the impact of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) community. Pride Month was federally recognized by President Bill Clinton in 1999. President Joe Biden declared June LGBTQ+ Pride Month in 2021.
