Dear Arroyo families,
I hope you had a wonderful break despite the stormy weather. I know that some of our families experienced power outages, and I hope everyone has had power restored and is safe and sound now. We might have more rain early in the week, so please help your child come to school dressed for the weather.
This week marks the end of our 2nd trimester. Students will be completing projects and assessments in the next couple of weeks. 4th graders will complete their current elective classes this week and rotate to their final wheel classes the week of March 6. Teachers will be completing report cards, which will be sent home by March 15.
Spring is a busy time of year at Arroyo, and we’re looking forward to a number of community events, class projects, and transition activities. As we return to school on Monday, I want to share a few reminders:
- We encourage you to make sure your child tests negative for COVID and is symptom-free before returning to school. We have extra test kits in our front office, which will be open at 7:45 a.m. Monday. If your child tests positive, please contact Tracey Olazar ([email protected]) in the office, and she will be happy to help. For more information, please refer to the SCSD Health and Safety Plan.
- Join us this Friday, March 3, from 8:45-9:45 a.m. for our Arroyo Principal’s Coffee. Join me and fellow Arroyo parents and guardians for coffee, community building, and a Q&A.
- Please mark your calendars to join us on campus Monday, March 6, from 8:35-9 a.m. for a school-wide mini-assembly to celebrate our 2023 California Distinguished School award! We’ll gather on the blacktop to celebrate as a community.
- Please complete the Arroyo Intent to Return Form by Friday, March 3. This form was sent via an email from San Carlos School District on Feb. 15. We need every family to complete the form for each child currently at Arroyo, whether returning to Arroyo/Central Middle School in 2023-24 or not. This information is essential to help us plan for class sizes and accurate staffing. If your plans change after completing the form, please let our office know right away.
- On Friday, March 10, at 8:45 a.m., I will host our first of three campus tours for incoming 4th Grade parents and caregivers. If you have friends and neighbors who are planning to attend Arroyo next year, please feel free to share this flier with them. 3rd grade families at Brittan Acres and White Oaks should have received an email from me with this information before the break.
I also want to remind everyone to get lunch orders placed now for March 6 and beyond, and if you did not get meals ordered for March 1-3, please plan to send lunch from home this week!
Finally, thanks to everyone who participated in our Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day before the break. We hope to make it an annual tradition and would love to see even more faces next year. Thank you to our students who created fantastic submissions for the Brave Like Ruby Contest; they rocked those purple beanies! Check out these photographs and this video of the walk. Thanks to the staff and volunteers who came out to support the event.
I’m looking forward to seeing our Eagles back this week!
Warmly, Mindy Shelton Principal [email protected]

March 6: Distinguished School Assembly
Arroyo School has been honored with the California Distinguished School Award. We will be holding an assembly on Monday, March 6, at 8:35 a.m. to commemorate this achievement with our students, teachers, and parents. We’d love for everyone to come and celebrate!

If your plans change at any time and you are not planning to return next year, please notify your school office as soon as possible. Thank you for your assistance with this important process.
