Arroyo Eagle Eye - 5/22/22

Principal's Message

Dear Arroyo Families,

We’re really excited to welcome you to campus on Tuesday evening for our Celebration of Learning! Arroyo classrooms will be open from 5:30-6:15 so that students can show you some of the projects and hard work they’ve been doing this year. Please stop by the Learning Commons for our Art in Action Art Show as well. At 6:15, join us in the Central quad for a pizza dinner and our PTA Honorary Service Awards. Central classrooms will be open from 7-8pm.

With Covid cases currently up in our community, it’s important that we take some extra precautions at our Celebration of Learning. In order to keep everyone safe and healthy for the end of the year, please help us by honoring the following requests:

  • Please wear a mask at all times indoors
  • We know that it’s fun for students to be able to see projects coming up in 5th grade or work they remember doing in 4th grade. Students will have the opportunity to do that during school on Wednesday morning. Please visit only your child’s classroom and the Art show in the Learning Commons.
  • Connecting with other families is an important part of the evening. We have lots of outdoor space available for that so please spend your classroom time looking at work and then move conversations outside.
  • If anyone in your family has Covid or is exhibiting any symptoms, please stay home. We will send your child’s work home later in the week so they can share it with you there instead.

We have finally completed our state testing. Students who were absent during testing will have an opportunity to make-up their testing this week. Over the next couple of weeks we will complete other end-of-year classroom assessments in addition to working on some fun projects to wrap up the year.

We have several transition events happening this week. Current 5th graders will be completing their elective request forms for 6th grade in class on Monday (please see the email sent to 5th grade parents on Wednesday about elective selection). Current 4th grade families will be notified of their electives for next year including their assigned instruments later this week. On Friday, we welcome current 3rd graders to Arroyo for a tour and a chance to learn more about what they can expect next year.

Eagle Council is holding our final community service food drive of the year. Please consider donating breakfast items such as cereal, pancake and waffle mix, syrup, cocoa, tea, instant coffee. Items can be brought to the office or classrooms before May 27.

We have a number of other end-of year events happening and I want to make sure they are on your calendar:

  • Friday, May 27 – Minimum Day - Dismissal at 12:50pm
  • Monday, May 30 – No School - Memorial Day holiday
  • Friday, June 3 – Arroyo Talent Show (students only - we may be able to invite parents of performers and will let you know soon if that is possible)
  • Monday, June 6 – Field Day – see PTA section below to volunteer!
  • Thursday, June 9, 1pm – Last Day of School! Dismissal at 12:50pm

Please help us keep our community safe so we can all enjoy the end of year activities. If your child has any symptoms, please keep them home and notify Tracey Olazar in our front office. ([email protected] or 650-632-8300). Please do the same if a member of your household tests positive for Covid. If you receive a Covid exposure notice for your child, please remind him/her/them to wear a mask for ten days, both at school and at activities outside of school! We want to help ensure that our students finish the year healthy, without interruptions during their last weeks of school. Let’s all do our part!

Warmly,
Mindy Shelton
Principal

End of Year Volunteer Opportunity!

Welcoming a New Family to Central and Arroyo!
Hello Arroyo/CMS Families!

Would you be interested in reaching out to a family who is new to our school?
Please fill out this form and we will reach out when we have a family for you to contact. We have had great success in the past getting a willing squad of "Host Families," so it is usually a commitment to reach out to one or two families.
New families often have simple questions about the school calendar, unique school events, or extracurriculars that are better answered by people who are in the fray with them. Outreach can be as simple as an email or phone call, or it could be more--like a coffee date or playdate. Thanks for considering it!

Our Yearbook is Looking Great. Did You Order Your Copy?
So many memories this year. And with TreeRing parents can purchase an Arroyo yearbook at any time. The bulk shipment to school deadline has passed, but if you buy a book now or into early June, you can still have it individually shipped to school or to your home.

To order a yearbook:

Interested in Volunteering with the PTA Next School Year?
Please complete this form and your email address will be added to a distribution list for volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. If you are interested in a board or committee chair role, or in helping to organize an event, someone from the PTA will contact you with the details. You’ll also be invited to our PTA Social (recruitment event) on Monday, June 6 at 7:30pm. Please sign up for the address.

We strive to ‘Make It Happen in May’ –meeting our fundraising goal during the month of May so that we can provide the School Board with a solid estimated grant amount to aid in their budget planning for next school year.
