Dear Arroyo families,

Thank you to everyone who made our teachers and staff feel so valued and appreciated this week, and all year long! I want to especially thank our PTA Staff Appreciation team of Beth Rowell, Leslie Ostrander, Erika Nelson, and Jen Fischer, along with our room parents, headed by Hilary Briant, for coordinating the efforts. And thanks to everyone who sent food, flowers, heartfelt messages, and more! We are so lucky to have dedicated professionals and amazing volunteers supporting our school community.

This is your last opportunity to order your Arroyo yearbook in time for it to be delivered to school. Yearbooks are distributed the last week of school, and extra copies will not be available on campus, so be sure to order by this Wednesday, May 15, if your child would like one.

This coming Saturday, May 18, is the beloved San Carlos Hometown Days Parade. We would love to have as many of our Arroyo families join us as possible wearing school colors and spirit wear. It’s an easy and fun way to show San Carlos how our Eagle spirit SOARS! Please see details below.

Our annual Celebration of Learning is coming up on Thursday, May 23. Please join us at 5:15 p.m. in the Central quad for pizza and our Central-Arroyo Honorary Service Awards. Then stop by your child’s classroom from 6:00-7:00 for a closer look at some of the things they’ve been learning this year. Our Art in Action Art Show will also be on display in the Learning Commons from 6:00-7:00.

Seeking Talent Show Volunteers

We need help supervising talent show practice! Practice will be held during recess on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:00-12:40 p.m. starting May 14, with the final production on Friday, June 7. Volunteers will sign in at the front office and then report to The Wild Zone, which is by the scooter/bike rack area along Woodland Avenue. Arroyo student leaders will lead practice sessions, so all you need to do is supervise for 40 minutes. We hope you will consider signing up!

Yearbook Deadline Is Wednesday!

This Wednesday, May 15, is the last day to order your student’s yearbook. It’s also the deadline for customizing their two free personal pages. Order and customize today!

Join Arroyo in the Hometown Days Parade

Saturday, May 18  •  meet 9-9:30 a.m.

Calling all Arroyo students and their families! The San Carlos Hometown Days celebration is May 17-19, and Arroyo School will be marching in the parade on the morning of Saturday, May 18. This is a great opportunity to show your school spirit and celebrate being an Arroyo Eagle!

Arroyo students and their adult chaperones will meet between 9 and 9:30 a.m. on Cedar Street by Central Middle School. Students are encouraged to bring water and wear purple or Arroyo school gear. 

Help Out with the Arroyo Art Show

It’s almost time for our annual Art Show! This year it’s Thursday, May 23, during the Celebration of Learning. Please sign up via this link to help with displaying the amazing art the students have been creating all year. Volunteer slots are available on Tuesday-Thursday, May 21-23. We also have take-home projects. Every bit helps!

Volunteers Needed for AANHPI Month and Pride Art Projects in the Library

May and June are AANHPI and Pride Month, respectively, and the PTA will have art projects for students in the school library during lunch and recess. In addition to the books that librarian Katie Hultgren has curated to highlight Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and the LGBTQ+ community, the PTA will provide supplies for origami and rainbow flags. If you can come help students with these projects on May 14, June 4, or June 6, please sign up here! 

SCEF Celebrates Music at Hometown Days: Bring your blanket and a picnic to Burton Park and enjoy our amazing middle school musicians! Friday, May 17, 5:30 p.m., Burton Park stage.

Kick Off Summer with the SF Giants: Cheer on our San Francisco Giants as they take on the Los Angeles Angels on June 14 at 7:15 p.m. at Oracle Park. SCEF has secured family-friendly bleacher seats near the Fan Lot, with slides for kids inside an 80-foot Coca-Cola bottle, and Little Giants Park, a mini field where kids can run the bases. Tickets are $30, and SCEF gets $5 from each one! A New Summer Food Program Is Coming

Starting this summer, you can buy more food for your child with California SUN Bucks, also called Summer-EBT. SUN Bucks works just like CalFresh, but for the summer.

Children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals through a school meal application or an Alternative Income Form, or get CalFresh, CalWORKs, or Medi-Cal, are automatically enrolled. You don’t need to do anything to sign up. SUN Bucks provides $40 per month for food for June, July, and August 2024 ($120 total). Lean more on the website.

Tennis Summer Camp

Silicon Valley Tennis Academy invites kids ages 6 to 16 to join us for some summer fun! From June 10 through Aug. 16, we offer weekly camps at Arguello Park Tennis Courts, 300 Phelps Rd. Learn more and sign up on our website. Send questions to [email protected] or call us at 650-414-1690.

San Carlos AYSO Fall Soccer Registration

Registration for the San Carlos AYSO fall 2024 season is now open! AYSO is a recreational soccer league focused on player development in a fun family environment. To register your player(s), go to our website and click on “Login” or “Register Now.” We have programs for ages 3 to 18! We are also looking for parent/community volunteers to be coaches and referees. Come join us on the pitch this fall!

Soccer Tryouts for San Carlos United 

San Carlos United Soccer Club will be holding tryouts in May for the fall season. Girls and boys born 2007 through 2016 are eligible. Players born in 2017 may try out for the 2016 teams. Please register on the San Carlos United website. We look forward to seeing you!
