Principal's Message

Dear Arroyo Families,

It was great seeing everyone at the Glow Party.  A huge thank you to our team of volunteers led by Sondra Harding.  Arroyo also had a great week of kindness last week celebrating The Great Kindness Challenge.  Thanks again to Salpi Dunlap for coming in to share her book and some thoughts on kindness and gratitude with our students.

This week is National School Counselors’ Week.  We’re so lucky to have Julie Jobak supporting our students at both Arroyo and Central.   Julie does a fantastic job helping kids resolve conflicts and cope with a variety of personal circumstances, planning school-wide activities, doing classroom lessons on social-emotional topics, and facilitating community and restorative circles.

Arroyo students really look forward to being able to visit the Garden, WildZone and Makerspace during lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays.  These spaces can only be used when there are parent volunteers to supervise.  Unfortunately we’ve had to keep them closed most days. If you can spare about 25 minutes of time from 12:00-12:25 on a Tuesday or Friday, we would love to have you.  The number of students allowed in each space is limited so supervision is fairly easy. Please sign up here to volunteer.  A special thank you to Stefani Caton and Winnie and Doug for consistently volunteering to open our WildZone and Garden on Tuesdays.

Do you enjoy Creative Writing, Drama, Music, or board/card Games?  Interested in helping our Green Team or Service Club?  We’re still in need of volunteers to help with our lunchtime clubs.  See below for more details and sign up here:

Measure N Parcel Tax Information

The San Carlos School District strives for teaching and learning excellence in every educational setting. Exceptional teachers, small class sizes, challenging instructional programs, dedicated parent volunteers, and outstanding science, art, and music programs are essential to student achievement and have prepared generations of local San Carlos children to succeed in high school, college, and careers.

Our current parcel tax is about to expire and Measure N is a continuation of that funding stream. The proceeds of this $334.60 parcel tax, could be used to replace the reduced or non-existent state funding and maintain the high quality of education at all SCSD schools. Teaching and learning benefit by maintaining these programs.

The early voting period starts on February 3, with four Vote Centers opening in San Mateo, Redwood City, South San Francisco and East Palo Alto. The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, February 18.

Make plans to attend the Chickens' Ball Variety Show Fundraiser in March!

Congratulations to the San Carlos Chickens’ Ball on celebrating its 80th year of raising funds for our local schools’ visual and performing arts!

80 years ago, the show raised milk money for San Carlos students. Now, money raised specifically supports art and music supplies in our schools. For example, Mariposa staff and students now have a beautiful mural to brighten the halls because of the money raised at the last Chickens' Ball. Tierra Linda students gained a ceramics class, supplied with clay and glaze. How much can we raise for our students this time? The goal is to raise over $40K to continue to support our programs. The more money we raise, the more we give back to our students.
Gather your friends and family and come cheer on your community. Tickets are on sale now for 7 shows! Evening and matinee performances are on March 13-15, March 20-22.
